How Gmatri uses your personal data
Please read this short notice before you create your account. It explains what personal data we ask for, why we need it, and your rights under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. When you tick the consent box at sign-up, you agree to us using your data as described here.
Version: 2026-10-20 · Effective: 12 December 2026
Draft · This notice is awaiting final legal review and may change before the service launches.
Who we are
Gmatri, from Guruji Matrimony by Aditya Guruji, is run by a sole proprietorship: [to be confirmed], sole proprietor, trading as [to be confirmed]. We decide why and how your personal data is used, so under the law we are your “Data Fiduciary”.
What we collect, and why
- Mobile number
- To create your account, sign you in with a one-time password (OTP), and send you messages about your account.
- Profile details — name, gender, date of birth, marital status, education, work, family, where you live, and the partner you are looking for
- To show your profile to suitable members, check the minimum age for marriage, and find matches for you.
- Religion, caste, sub-caste and gothram
- Many families consider these when arranging a marriage. We show them on your profile and use them in the searches and filters members choose. Add only what you want to share.
- Date, time and place of birth
- To draw your horoscope and show the porutham reference.
- Photos and voice introduction
- To show to members as your visibility settings allow. Photos are checked automatically for safety.
- Chats and voice notes
- To deliver your messages. They are checked automatically to stop phone numbers, links and abusive words; our team reads a conversation only if it is reported.
- A photo of an ID document and a selfie — only if you choose to get verified
- To check that you are a real person and give you the Verified badge. We delete these images as soon as the check is decided. For Aadhaar, please upload a masked Aadhaar.
- Device and activity details — sign-in sessions, notification token, IP address, interests and profile views
- To keep your account secure, prevent misuse, send the notifications you allow, and run features such as “who viewed you”.
Only your mobile number and basic profile details are required. Everything else is your choice, and you decide who sees your photos and your number.
We never sell your personal data and never use it for advertising.
Who else handles it
Service providers that work for us: SMS and WhatsApp delivery (MSG91), file storage (Cloudflare), photo checks (Sightengine), ID checks (Surepass), notifications (Google Firebase and Apple), error reports (Sentry) and email delivery. Some of them process data outside India. We also share data when the law requires it — for example, with the police or a court.
How long we keep it
As long as your account is open. When you delete your account, your profile disappears at once; your photos, voice recordings and ID images are deleted at once; and everything else is erased within 30 days — unless the law requires us to keep something longer.
Your rights
- Get a summary of your personal data and who we have shared it with — and download a copy at any time from Settings.
- Correct, complete or update your details.
- Have your data erased — delete any detail, or your whole account.
- Withdraw your consent at any time.
- Nominate someone to use these rights for you if you die or cannot act yourself.
- Have your complaints answered by our Grievance Officer.
How to withdraw consent
Withdrawing is as easy as giving consent. In Settings you can remove any detail or photo, hide your profile, turn off notifications, or delete your account. You can also write to privacy@gmatri.in. After you withdraw, we stop using that data and erase it, except what the law requires us to keep. What we did before stays lawful, and some features may stop working.
